About Mass Fidelity Core Speaker

An elegant multi-room option
Three things you need to know about the groundbreaking Mass Fidelity Core portable Bluetooth speaker. First, it delivers surprisingly big, immersive, sound with clear midrange and rich bass. Second, you can wirelessly connect up to eight Cores to create a multi-room audio system. It doesn’t even require a home Wi-Fi® network or a control app. Third, it’s a stunning example of industrial design, compact in size and attractive in appearance. And there’s more.

Advanced Bluetooth
The Core uses Class 1 Bluetooth which delivers a more robust connection at a greater range than most speakers (which use Class 2). And it’s compatible with aptX®, a wireless audio technology that retains virtually all the detail of the original signal.

Outstanding sound
The Core uses an array of five custom-designed speakers, with total system power of 120 watts. Advanced acoustic holography technology produces an immersive soundfield. This means you’re free to move about the room and hear the same, natural, balanced sound without being confined to a single “sweet spot.” And if you want more bass, you can wirelessly pair Mass Fidelity’s optional, matching Core Sub.

Multi-room audio the easy way
Core speakers connect wirelessly to each other via a proprietary 5GHz bandwidth network. So they won’t interfere with your home Wi-Fi. You can have up to eight Cores in your system, and set up is simple. Just press the multi-room button on top of the speaker to add it to your system. Anything you can play on your smartphone, tablet, or Bluetooth-enabled computer can be streamed to one or more Cores.

And it’s portable!
The Core’s rechargeable battery delivers up to 12 hours of continual operation. So you can easily carry it out on the deck or anywhere you want to take your music. It also has a USB charging port to keep your smartphone powered up. When you need to recharge the Core, just connect its AC power cord.

Cinematic Sound: The Core by Mass Fidelity produces stunning cinematic sound, with smooth highs, crystal clear midrange, and deep bass. It uses Holographic Sound Technology & Wave Field Synthesis technology to  produce a stereo soundfield and ultra-wide soundstage. It’s like listening to a pair of speakers, except it’s coming from a single powered speaker that is small enough to hold in your hand.

  • Holographic Sound Technology: Mass Fidelity’s Core uses a revolutionary Holographic Sound Technology that creates the illusion of two widely-spaced speakers and a true stereo image without separated stereo speakers. The result is a life-like stereo image; a hologram that delivers the feeling of a “live” performance, regardless of where the listener sits in the room.
  • Wave Field Synthesis: In a traditional stereo setup, listeners need to sit between two speakers to hear a well-balanced stereo image. Audiophiles refer to that as the “sweet spot”. To eliminate the sweet spot, the Core uses an audio rendering technique called Wave Field Synthesis to produce a virtual acoustic scene. This acoustic image can be enjoyed from any position in the room and does not depend on the listener’s position.

Multi-Driver Array with Built-In Amplifier: Mass Fidelity has carefully chosen five custom-designed drivers in three arrays along with a downward-firing woofer, driven by a 120 watt Class D amplifier for clean, powerful, and rich room-filling sound. Several digital signal processors bring out the best in any type of music you choose to play, while an ARM processing core intuitively works to keep the whole system synchronized.

Absolute Bass Technology (ABT): Mass Fidelity’s Absolute Bass Technology (ABT) is a combination of electronics, software, and mechanical engineering working in unison to produce a low frequency performance unmatched for its size. The end result is a compact powered speaker that makes accurate, deep, rich bass.

Flexible Placement & Orientation: Room placement is very flexible, however for the best sonic imaging place the Core at the center of a wall rather than in a corner. And, for best bass response move it close to a wall or any room boundary with the back side toward the wall. Orientation of the unit is also very flexible, however the front of the Core should face the listening area for best sonic imaging, to allow the IR sensor at the front of the Core to detect signals from the remote, and to best orient the microphone at the front of the Core for speakerphone operation.

Optional Powered Sub: The optional Core Sub (882CORESUB, sold separately) is a high fidelity subwoofer that seamlessly integrates with the Core speaker system, adding rich, full low-range depth to all of your music. The Core Sub can be connected wirelessly to the Core speaker system via 5.2/5.8GHz RF or hardwired to the Core speaker system via a mono-minijack cable (sold separately). When connected to the Core Sub, the Core speaker system uses Dynamic Re-tuning Technology – automatically ceasing all the bass duties and concentrates on flawless, higher output midrange and high frequency reproduction.

is also equipped with a mono-minijack (3.5mm) sub output for a hardwire connection to a separate powered subwoofer (sold separately).

Wireless or Wired Connectivity

Bluetooth Audio Streaming: The Core connects wirelessly to practically any Bluetooth enabled smartphone, tablet, or computer. You are able to wirelessly stream your Bluetooth source device’s stored music library, music from the cloud, internet radio, and online music services to the Mass Fidelity Core speaker system. You’ll still use your Bluetooth source device for music playback control and to view song/artist information.

  • Music Codecs: In addition to support Bluetooth’s standard SBC music codec, the Core offers supports for higher quality AAC and aptX codecs. apt-X audio coding technology delivers lossless, CD-quality streaming with apt-X compatible devices (like Android OS 4.0+). AAC coding technology offers high quality streaming with Bluetooth enabled Apple iOS devices.
  • Pairing Procedures: The Core lets you pair your Bluetooth source device via Simple Secure Pairing (SSP) or Near Field Communication (NFC). Simple Secure Pairing lets you pair your device with a single press of a button and not complicated PIN to enter. Near Field Communication lets you easily pair your compatible device (like Android OS 4.0+) by tapping it to the NFC logo on top of the powered speaker. Once paired, your device will automatically connect when it comes within range (up to 30′) of the speaker.

Bluetooth Speakerphone: When connected to a smartphone via Bluetooth, the Core can be used as a speakerphone to answer calls without touching the phone. When a call is received on the smartphone, the Core switches to Speakerphone operation and the volume level of any music playing will fade. Press the Source key to answer the call.

Note: The Speakerphone feature is turned off by default. See the Instruction Manual for details on how to activate the Speakerphone feature.

Digital & Analog Inputs: In addition to wireless Bluetooth connectivity, the Core features an optical (toslink) digital input and a stereo minijack (3.5mm) analog input so you can connect wired audio sources such as a TV, CD player, turntable (requires phono preamp), video streaming device, PC or music server. The optical digital input will support 2ch PCM audio up to 24-bit/192kHz (not compatible with Dolby Digital/DTS).

USB Charging Port: The Mass Fidelity Core’s built-in USB (type-A) port can be used to charge your smartphone device when it is running low on battery. This USB port is for charging purposes only and does not support audio playback from connected devices.

Proprietary Wireless Multiroom Audio: Start with a single Mass Fidelity Core speaker and add more Core speakers later throughout your home. You can connect up to eight Cores throughout your home with the touch of a button. Each Core can play individually from a local source or in unison from the same source. No app, WiFi connection, router, or switch is needed. The Core speakers create their own proprietary multiroom network in the 5.2/5.8 GHz radio spectrum and distribute uncompressed CD quality digital audio.

Note: It is possible to create up to four multiroom networks in order to create separate groups within one household or between households (to resolve network conflict with a neighbor, for example). The unit’s wireless module will need to be removed and the sliding switch set to appropriate channel (1, 2, 3, or 4). All units ship with Channel 1 selected by default (see instruction manual for further details).

AC & Battery Powered: The Mass Fidelity Core features a rechargeable lithium-ion battery that can provide up to 12 hours of playback. The included AC power adapter can be used to charge the battery and power the Core speaker system.

Note: The lithium-ion battery in the Core is not user replaceable and can only be replaced by Mass Fidelity or a Mass Fidelity Authorized Service Provider.

Convenient Control

Precise Volume Control: The Volume controls increases or decreases the volume in 32 steps from muted to 100%. When the unit goes into standby mode, it remembers the last volume level, and returns to it when it comes out of standby mode. If the unit is turned on after being shut down, the last volume setting used is remembered as long as it is not louder than step 25 or lower than step 9. If the last volume setting used was louder than step 25, the level is reset to step 25. If the last volume setting used was lower than step 9, the level is reset to step 9.

Top-Panel & Remote Controls: The Mass Fidelity Core features push-button controls on the top-panel for Source Selection, Multiroom Audio Connect, and Volume Up/Down. In addition to the top-panel controls, the Core comes with an IR remote control for wireless operation of the speakers. The remote includes all the same functions as the top-panel controls, but also includes a Power & Mute function. There is also a Power button on the back-panel of the speaker.

IR Input: A 3.5mm IR input let you connect an optional IR receiver (sold separately), in case the Mass Fidelity Core speaker system is placed in a spot where you don’t have direct line of sight between the speaker system and the included remote control.

Auto Standby Mode: In Auto Standby Mode (when power adapter is connected), the Core will automatically turn off when there is not audio signal for approximately 30 minutes from any input (Bluetooth, Optical, or Aux). If the Core is running on battery power and has no audio signal from any input (Bluetooth, Optical, or Aux) for about 10 minutes, it turns off to save battery power regardless of whether the Auto Standby Mode is enabled or disabled.
